Law 840 is a long-term project examining the socio-political and physical landscape in Nicaragua. The film begins by traveling the proposed route of Daniel Ortega's interoceanic canal, from the Pacific to the Caribbean ocean, speaking to inhabitants about its potential impact on the social and environmental fabric of the country.

Law 840 was passed through parliament in just two days, granting Chinese company HKND a 50-year concession to build, amongst other things, an interoceanic canal through the heart of the country. This law will permit the expropriation of land, leaving the local environment and its communities at great risk.

The question remains whether this is simply a power grab from Ortega, moving from revolutionary to dictator, or if this mega project will in fact be built, lifting many out of poverty at high environmental cost?
